Job summary

CHRISTUS Health is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician II to perform complex clinical testing across general laboratory sections as well as Blood Bank and Microbiology. The role includes quality control, proficiency testing, equipment maintenance, and blood product handling as requested by medical staff.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher in clinical laboratory science or medical laboratory technology.
• Military training of at least 50 weeks in medical laboratory procedures, with specialty of MLT.
• 60 semester hours or equivalent including required lab/science coursework.
• Clinical laboratory training through ABHES/NAACLS approved program or equivalently documented lab training.

Responsibilities

• Meets competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
• Specimen collection/handling/processing including venipuncture/fingerstick; proper labeling and processing.
• Perform tests across Hematology, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Chemistry, Special Chemistry, ER Stat Lab, Microbiology; operate analyzers.
• Perform QC and record results per CLIA, CAP, AABB, JCAHO guidelines; participate in Performance Improvement.
• Preventative maintenance, restock supplies, document reagent handling, and ensure safe lab practices.
• Assist in training new staff and students; adhere to CAP, AABB, CLIA, OSHA standards.

Education

Associate degree or higher in clinical laboratory science or medical laboratory technology

Military medical laboratory training 50 weeks (enlisted specialty MLT)

60 semester hours with medical lab tech or science courses
