Job summary

UTMB Health in Angleton, TX is seeking a Senior Medical Laboratory Scientist in Laboratory Services to oversee and perform complex medical laboratory procedures, supervise staff, and ensure accurate patient results.

You will recruit, train, and evaluate personnel, develop procedures, monitor quality, manage inventory, and coordinate daily operations to support timely diagnostics and compliant lab services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Basic Science with two years related experience.
• ASCP, AMT, or ABHI certification (or equivalent) qualifies as testing personnel for high complexity testing under CLIA.

Responsibilities

• Recruit, hire, payroll, orientation, training, supervision, evaluation, competency assessment and disciplinary actions for divisional staff.
• Supervise lab personnel performing routine and specialized procedures; plan work, evaluate performance, and resolve issues.
• Act as lead worker; oversee daily operations, scheduling, and process improvements.
• Assist leadership in developing and updating protocols and procedures; ensure proper documentation and compliance.
• Maintain inventory and budget input; ensure regulatory accreditation standards are met.
• Communicate with management, staff, and medical directors; ensure patient results are accurate and timely.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Basic Science

Two years related experience

ASCP/AMT/ABHI certification or equivalent
