Job summary

The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB Health) in Angleton, TX is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist to perform and report moderate to high complexity laboratory tests within Laboratory Services. The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Basic Science and certification within 12 months of hire.

Mid shift responsibilities include performing, reviewing and documenting test results, with opportunities to train staff and participate in new test evaluations.

Qualifications

• Must obtain certification by ASCP, AMT, ABHI or equivalent within 12 months of hire.
• Qualifies as Testing Personnel for high complexity testing under CLIA.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine and complex laboratory procedures with accuracy and precision.
• Reviews and evaluates accuracy of lab data and reports patient results with required documentation.
• Performs and evaluates quality control data and checks expiration dates.
• Maintains laboratory instruments and equipment and documents procedures.
• Troubleshoots equipment malfunctions per protocol and investigates deviations.
• Instructs and trains employees and students and assesses competency as needed.
• Communicates pertinent information to staff, management, medical directors and other divisions.
• Available to cover different shifts to guarantee patient care.
