Job summary

UTMB Health in Angleton, TX seeks a Senior Medical Laboratory Scientist to oversee and coordinate laboratory procedures within a section. The role requires ensuring accuracy of results, staff supervision, and adherence to safety and regulatory standards.

Candidates must hold a CLS or Basic Science degree with 2 years of related experience, and a valid technologist-level certification (ASCP/AMT/ABHI or equivalent) with CLIA high-complexity qualification.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Basic Science with 2 years related experience.
• Technologist level certification from ASCP, AMT, ABHI or equivalent.
• Qualifies as Testing Personnel for high complexity testing under CLIA.

Responsibilities

• Recruitment, hiring, payroll, orientation, training, supervision, evaluation, competency assessment, coaching, disciplinary action and/or termination process of divisional employees.
• Supervises laboratory personnel engaged in routine and specialized technical procedures, including planning work and evaluating performance.
• Acts as lead worker, supervises, directs, plans, develops and oversees daily operations including scheduling work assignments.
• Assists leadership in developing protocols and procedures and reviews existing procedures.
• Ensures laboratory division functions with appropriate staff to guarantee efficient operation.
• Reviews and evaluates accuracy of lab data and reports patient results with required documentation.
• Assists with problems independently and meets deadlines to support patient, provider and system needs.
• Supports Quality Management activities including QC, proficiency testing, and documentation.
