Job summary

Saint Joseph Medical Center - Joliet seeks an experienced hospital laboratory professional for diverse duties across Hematology, Chemistry, Blood Bank, Urinalysis and Microbiology. The role requires careful adherence to procedures and QC policies, with responsibility for reporting accuracy and proficiency testing alignment.

Candidates should have ASCP certification (or equivalent), a bachelor’s degree in a health science field, and at least two years of hospital lab experience.

Qualifications

• ASCP certification, or equivalent preferred.
• Minimum two years of hospital laboratory work experience required.
• Bachelor’s Degree in chemical, physical, biological health science or Medical Laboratory Technology.
• Current and Valid State License if applicable.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to laboratory procedures for collection, processing, analysis and reporting of patient test results.
• Follow QC policies and document corrective actions when tests deviate from specifications.
• Identify problems that affect test performance and notify supervisor or Medical Director.
• Perform diverse laboratory procedures in Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology, etc.
• Maintain instruments and equipment and document routine maintenance.
• Review accuracy of patient results prior to reporting.
• Recognize age-specific differences in expected results from newborns to geriatrics.
• May perform venipuncture or capillary puncture across age groups.
• Assist in development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures.
