Job summary

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) seeks a skilled Medical Lab Technician III to support our academic health center. In this advanced role, you will perform complex laboratory tests, operate and maintain analyzers, and ensure accurate, timely results for patient care and research.

You will collaborate with pathologists, clinicians, and researchers, support training of junior staff and students, and contribute to process improvement in a collaborative, education-focused environment.

Qualifications

• ASCP or AMT Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification preferred or equivalent.
• Compliance with CLIA personnel requirements.
• BLS certification may be required.
• Experience in an academic medical center or teaching hospital preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex clinical laboratory tests and analyses.
• Process and verify specimens with proper labeling and handling.
• Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory analyzers and equipment.
• Perform QA/QC procedures to meet regulatory standards.
• Validate and report results via LIS.
• Collaborate with pathologists, clinicians, and researchers.
• Assist in training junior staff and students.
• Follow CLIA/CAP/Joint Commission guidelines.
• Participate in process improvement and new test implementations.
• Maintain accurate records for audits and inspections.
