Clutch is looking for an experienced Senior Medical Editor for a client of ours.

Responsibilities:

  • Review direct-to-consumer and direct-to-professional pharmaceutical advertising materials at various stages to ensure medical accuracy, adherence to FDA regulations, AMA style, and specific brand style guidelines.
  • Perform substantive editing to enhance the scientific quality, flow, readability, and logical construction of documents.
  • Ensure full editorial compliance with all FDA regulations.
  • Efficiently and effectively manage the editorial requirements for 3-5 brands, including high-science and data-heavy projects.
  • Fact-check references and claims rigorously against official medical reference documents.
  • Utilize excellent proofreading skills and provide support to proofreaders as needed.
  • Create necessary supporting documents for references and claims, such as reference binders.
  • Maintain core claims documents, medical reference libraries, and style guides for assigned brands, ensuring all reference documents are updated and current.
  • Collaborate closely with copywriters and project managers to ensure all work is edited and proofread at appropriate stages within the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure proper storage of work on the server for easy team accessibility.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of relevant experience as an editor, preferably within an highly organized advertising agency with a focus on pharmaceutical or healthcare clients.
  • Proficient in AMA (American Medical Association) editorial style.
  • Thorough understanding of medical and pharmaceutical terminology.
  • Demonstrated expertise in English-language rules, including grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with copywriters and team members, as well as independently and according to schedule.
  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Writing, Communications, or a similar field; or relevant comparable industry experience.
  • Must be computer literate and proficient in marking up changes using Adobe Acrobat tools and Microsoft Word.
  • ELS (Editor in the Life Sciences) certification is optimal but not mandatory.
