Job summary

Magnendo is seeking a Senior Embedded Platform Engineer to lead the tools and infrastructure our software team uses to build, test, release, and deploy software for our medical-grade edge compute and robotics platform.

You will shape development environments, drive CI/CD pipelines, and collaborate with Systems and Quality to meet regulatory requirements, while advancing our cutting-edge endovascular technology.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in platform engineering, developer infrastructure, devops or build/release.
• Experience with high-reliability software and regulatory environments.
• Deep Linux/OS fundamentals and cross-compilation for embedded/edge hardware.
• Strong Git workflows, reproducible builds, and software-supply chain practices.
• Proficiency in Python and Bash; comfortable with C/C++ build systems.

Responsibilities

• Own embedded development infrastructure, build systems, automation testing, and release engineering.
• Create deterministic cross-compilation environments for Linux, RTOS, and edge targets.
• Contribute to OS choices and hardware architecture definitions as needed.
• Design and maintain CI pipelines including static analysis and testing.

We’re looking for a Senior Embedded Platform Engineer to lead the development of the tools and infrastructure our software team uses to build, test, release, and deploy software for our medical-grade edge compute and robotics platform. As an early hire in this domain, you will be a critical part of the small, dedicated team we are building to bring our breakthrough technology from prototype to FDA-approved product.

You will:

• Be our technical expert for embedded development infrastructure, build systems, automated testing, and release engineering.
• Build deterministic, reproducible development and cross-compilation environments for Linux, RTOS, and edge hardware targets.
• Contribute to evaluation and selection of the operating system configuration (e.g. Linux variant, QNX, etc.) for our high performance medical grade system, including multiprocessor or virtualization architecture definition as needed.
• Design and maintain CI pipelines including static analysis, unit testing, integration testing, system testing, and release qualification.
• Develop infrastructure for automated testing on simulators and physical hardware, including provisioning, test execution, artifact collection, and hardware resource management.
• Standardize dependency management, packaging, versioning, artifact storage, and release workflows.
• Automate software deployment to development systems, test systems, and target devices.
• Build release infrastructure that provides artifact integrity, provenance, traceability, and reproducibility.
• Make thoughtful build-versus-buy decisions for platform tooling and provide technical leadership to other engineers in developer infrastructure and release practices.
• Collaborate with Systems and Quality teams ensure that our platform and our process meet regulatory requirements.

You are:

• 5+ years of experience in platform engineering, developer infrastructure, devops, or build and release engineering with demonstrated ability to deliver the types of systems described above
• Experienced with production software development in an environment with high reliability requirements, preferably under a regulatory regime.
• Deeply knowledgeable about Linux/OS fundamentals and how distributions are controlled and maintained.
• Experienced with cross-compilation and software-delivery workflows for embedded or edge hardware.
• Experienced building shared tools and infrastructure used by software and algorithm development teams.
• Experienced in evaluating, selecting, and packaging 3rd party frameworks and libraries.
• Experienced with hardware interfaces.
• Deep knowledge of Git workflows, reproducible builds, artifact provenance, dependency control, and software supply-chain practices.
• Experienced designing and maintaining CI systems, automated test infrastructure, artifact repositories, dependency-management systems, and release pipelines.
• Proficient in Python and Bash, with the ability to build robust internal tools and maintainable automation.
• Comfortable troubleshooting C or C++ build systems and working with embedded software teams.
• A good collaborator who understands the importance of clear communication and humility.
• Able to convey complex engineering and infrastructure tradeoffs to cross-functional teams and external partners.

Bonus points:

• Experience in the medical device industry, ideally with interventional or robotic systems, working knowledge of medical device software requirements.
• Experience developing software under a regulatory framework such as medical device (e.g., IEC 62304, IEC 60601), functional safety (IEC 61508, ISO 13849), or automotive (ISO 26262)
• Experience with robotics or autonomous systems.
• Experience with embedded Linux, custom Linux distributions, RTOS environments, or high-performance edge compute platforms.
• Experience with Yocto, Buildroot, Debian packaging, or similar embedded build and packaging systems.
• Experience with CMake, Bazel, Ninja, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, Buildkite, Artifactory, or comparable tools.
• Experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing, automated test fixtures, and shared hardware test infrastructure.
