Job summary

Magnendo Corp. seeks a Principal Software Engineer to lead the selection, configuration, and development of our core software infrastructure, including OS selection, real-time orchestration, IPC, and hardware support.

You will build robust logging and playback systems, drive design decisions through prototyping and testing, and define requirements, test plans, and acceptance criteria for infrastructure components. Collaboration with robotics and hardware teams is essential.

Qualifications

• 9+ years of experience in systems and infrastructure software engineering.
• A software engineer who wants to build extensible, maintainable, high quality systems.
• Experience with production software development in high reliability environments, preferably under a regulatory regime.
• Strong individual contributor with potential to grow into leading a small team.

Responsibilities

• Own the architecture and technical direction of core software infrastructure (OS selection/configuration, real-time orchestration, IPC, hardware support).

• Drive design decisions using first-principles engineering, prototyping, and hands-on testing.

• Support risk analysis, design reviews, and root-cause investigations for infrastructure and systems software.

You Will:

• Own the architecture and technical direction of our core softwareinfrastructure,including OSselectionand configuration, real-timeorchestration,inter-process communication, and hardware support

• Build andmaintainrobust logging, record, and playback systems to support debugging, verification, and root-cause investigation

• Drive design decisions using first-principles engineering analysis, prototyping, and hands-on testing

• Define and review requirements, test plans, and acceptance criteria for infrastructure and systems software components

• Collaborate closely with robotics, systems, andhardwareengineers

• Support risk analysis, design reviews, and root-cause investigations for infrastructure and systems software

• Ensure that software is developed following a rigorous process that combines best practices of modern high reliability software development with a regulatory v-model framework

• 9+ years of experiencein systemsandinfrastructure software engineeringanddemonstratedability to deliver the types of software described above

• Comfortable serving as a technical authority — providing design guidance and review to internal engineers and external contractors alike

• Able tooperatewith the judgment and independence expected of aPrincipal-level engineer — sets technical direction with limited oversight, while holding the line on rigor where it matters most

• Able to clearly convey complex infrastructure and systems tradeoffs to cross-functional teams and external partners

• Proficient with Python, C++, Linux, GIT

Bonus Points:

• Experience with packaging in source-based Linux distributions (Yocto, Gentoo, etc.)

• Experience in the medical device industry, ideally with interventional or robotic systems

• Experience with robotics or autonomous systems

• Working knowledge of medical device software requirements (e.g., IEC 62304, IEC 60601)
