Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a skilled Medical Coder to review medical records and assign ICD-10-CM/CPT codes. You will abstract required data elements and ensure accurate entry into the hospital coding system.

Role requires familiarity with trauma/teaching guidelines and completion of relevant coding courses. The position emphasizes accuracy, mentorship, and ongoing training to stay current with coding guidelines.

Qualifications

• Minimum High School/GED; 5 years of hospital and/or physician coding; 1 year of coding - all specialties and service lines
• Extensive knowledge in Trauma/Teaching/Observation guidelines
• Successful completion of coding courses in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology
• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) / RHIT / RHIA / CCS-P / CPC / COC certifications preferred

Responsibilities

• Reviews and interprets medical information to determine ICD-10-CM/CPT codes for diagnoses and procedures.
• Abstracts data elements to satisfy statistical requests and enters coded information into designated system.
• Manages unbilled coding report to support cash flow and timely billing.
• Keeps updated with ICD-10-CM/CPT changes and applies updates in daily work.
• Provides mentorship and acts as a subject matter expert to others.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
