Job summary

NYU Grossman School of Medicine is seeking a Billing Coordinator (Level III) to join the Manhattan Plastic Surgery team within the Faculty Group Practice Central Billing Offices. The role focuses on coding review, charge submission, reconciliation, and follow-up on denials to maximize revenue while ensuring compliance with CPT/ICD-10 guidelines.

You will collaborate with physicians, staff, and management; train front-line teams; and provide actionable feedback to improve documentation and coding

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 5+ years of relevant work experience or equivalent combination of training and relevant work experience.
• Certified Coding Specialist Certification (CCS) or Certified Coding Specialist- Physician-based (CCS-P) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Outpatient Coding (COC) required.
• Ability to multi-task with good communication, interpersonal, and computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Monitor reports and workqueues to ensure coding, charge submission and accounts receivable follow-up in a timely basis.
• Perform charge reconciliation to validate all revenue is captured.
• Review unbilled charge reports and follow up with physicians and practice management for unbilled services.
• Review claims denied for coding errors, draft appeal letters, submit information to insurance companies and follow-up on appeals.
• Identify coding or documentation issues and suggest improvements to physicians and escalate as needed.
• Train physicians, staff and management on coding and reimbursement policies; collaborate with vendors.
• Ensure accurate collection, preparation, and verification of billing information; review denial reports and recommend changes.
• Maintain CPC certification and act as a resource to clinicians and staff on local and national coding policies.
