Job summary

Harbor Community Health Centers is seeking a Medical Assistant II to provide direct and indirect clinical support to providers, perform advanced clinical procedures, support care coordination, and assist in training staff.

The MA II will prepare exam rooms, assist during exams, perform venipuncture and injections, document in EMR, educate patients, and help improve workflow and patient flow within a primary care setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Graduation from an accredited medical assisting program (CAAHEP or ABHES) or equivalent training and experience is required.
• Minimum 3 years of progressively responsible medical assistant experience, preferably in primary care, community health, or FQHC settings.
• Current BLS certification is required.
• Experience in FQHC or community health setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare exam rooms and patients for visits, including obtaining vital signs and medical history.
• Verify patient identity using two identifiers and confirm reason for visit.
• Assist providers during exams and procedures.
• Perform advanced clinical duties, including venipuncture, injections/immunizations, EKGs, and other diagnostic tests per scope and competency.
• Collect, process, and document laboratory specimens.
• Administer medications and support prescription processes per provider orders and policy.
• Document all patient care activities accurately in the EMR.
• Educate patients on medications, treatment plans, and follow-up care.
• Coordinate care by reviewing provider schedules, identifying gaps, and supporting patient flow.
• Respond to patient calls and route messages within the EMR.
