Job summary

HarborCHC is seeking a Medical Assistant II to provide direct and indirect clinical support to providers, ensuring safe, efficient patient care and contributing to care coordination.

You will perform advanced clinical duties (venipuncture, injections, EKGs), assist in exams, document in EMR, educate patients, and help with training and onboarding of staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Graduation from an accredited medical assisting program (CAAHEP or ABHES) or equivalent training/experience.
• Minimum 3 years of medical assistant experience, preferably in primary care/FQHC settings.
• Current BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare exam rooms and patients for visits; obtain vital signs and medical history.
• Verify patient identity using two identifiers and confirm reason for visit.
• Assist providers during exams and procedures.
• Perform advanced clinical duties (venipuncture, injections, EKGs, and other tests).
• Collect, process, and document laboratory specimens per protocol.
• Administer medications and support prescription processes.
• Document patient care activities in EMR.
• Educate patients on medications, treatment plans, and follow-up care.
• Coordinate care and support patient flow; respond to patient calls in EMR.
• Maintain equipment and inventory; comply with infection control and OSHA standards.
• Assist in training and onboarding MA staff; improve workflow.

JOB SUMMARY

The Medical Assistant II (MA II) provides direct and indirect clinical support to providers to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. In addition to core medical assistant duties, the MA II performs advanced clinical procedures, supports care coordination, contributes to workflow improvements, and assists in training and mentoring staff.

• Prepare exam rooms and patients for visits, including obtaining vital signs and medical history
• Verify patient identity using two identifiers and confirm reason for visit
• Assist providers during exams and procedures
• Perform advanced clinical duties, including venipuncture, injections/immunizations, EKGs, and other diagnostic tests per scope and competency
• Collect, process, and document laboratory specimens in accordance with protocols
• Administer medications and support prescription processes in accordance with provider orders and organizational policy
• Document all patient care activities accurately in the EMR
• Educate patients on medications, treatment plans, and follow-up care
• Coordinate care by reviewing provider schedules, identifying gaps in care, and supporting patient flow
• Respond to patient calls and route messages appropriately within the EMR
• Maintain equipment, perform quality checks, and ensure adequate inventory of supplies and vaccines
• Ensure compliance with infection control standards, OSHA regulations, and Universal Precautions
• Support training and onboarding of new or existing MA staff
• Collaborate with care team members to improve workflow efficiency and patient experience
• Perform other duties as assigned

Additional MA II Responsibilities:

• Assist in training and mentoring MA staff
• Provide input on workflow improvements
• Assist in managing patient flow and walk-ins

QUALIFICATIONS

Required education, experience, and/or training:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Graduation from an accredited medical assisting program (CAAHEP or ABHES) or equivalent training and experience
• Minimum 3 years of progressively responsible medical assistant experience, preferably in primary care, community health, or FQHC settings
• Current BLS certification

Preferred:

• Experience in FQHC or community health setting

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to manipulate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust.

HOURS OF OPERATIONS

HarborCHC is open Monday-Thursday 7:00 am-7:00 pm, Friday 8:00 am-5:00 pm, and Saturday 8:00 am-5:00 pm with occasional overtime or other shifts based on clinic needs. This is a non-exempt position, and any overtime must be approved by your supervisor in advance.
