Job summary

L3Harris Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Senior Specialist, Mechanical Engineer (Mechanisms) to lead design, analysis, and qualification of precision mechanisms used in mission systems.

The role involves owning components from concept through integration and test, with an emphasis on performance, weight, and reliability, at on-site locations in Carlsbad, CA, Palm Bay, FL, or Chantilly, VA. The position requires a Bachelor’s Degree with extensive relevant experience, strong CAD and GD&T skills,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience; graduate degree with 4+ years preferred.
• Active Top Secret or Top Secret/SCI clearance is required (active within last two years considered).
• Experience with 3D CAD, drawings, tolerance analysis (GD&T).
• Experience designing precision mechanisms and mechatronic hardware.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design, analysis, prototype integration, and qualification testing for precision mechanisms and electro-mechanical hardware.
• Develop 3D models, drawings, technical data packages, and assembly documentation.
• Evaluate material selections and design trades to improve performance, size, weight, power, manufacturability, and reliability.
• Plan and execute component and system-level tests; analyze results and drive design improvements.
• Present designs at internal and customer reviews, including PDRs and CDRs.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, configuration management, suppliers, technicians, and test teams to transition designs to production.
• Support field-test or demonstrations as needed.
