Job summary

Leidos Defense seeks a Senior Mechanical Test Engineer in Huntsville to lead the planning, execution, and evaluation of structural tests for mechanical components and assemblies. You will develop test plans, identify anomalies, and collaborate across disciplines to verify system interfaces function as intended.

The role involves data collection, reporting, and integration with electrical and control subsystems. Candidates should have an ABET-accredited B.S.

Qualifications

• ABET accredited B.S. in mechanical engineering or closely related engineering discipline.
• Eight or more years of relevant engineering experience in mechanical engineering, structural testing, system integration and test, hardware verification, or related field.
• Working knowledge of statics, dynamics, strength of materials, stress and strain, load transfer, stiffness, and deflection.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate across mechanical, systems, electrical, manufacturing, and test engineering disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare, execute, and evaluate structural tests for mechanical components, assemblies, and data collection.
• Develop and review structural test plans, procedures, and data collection requirements.
• Identify test anomalies such as unusual deformation, loading, fixture movement, or fastener issues.
• Support system-level integration and test activities to ensure interfaces function as intended.
• Translate requirements and verification plans into executable test procedures.
• Support integration of mechanical assemblies with electrical and control subsystems in tests.
• Conduct system-level environmental, vibration, and other qualification activities as needed.
• Prepare test reports detailing objectives, configurations, results, and recommendations.
