Job summary

Idaho National Laboratory seeks a Mechanical Engineer to design, test, and verify complex mechanical and software systems using rigorous systems engineering. You will decompose requirements, support cross‑discipline projects, and leverage MBSE and AI tools for design reviews.

The role operates at MFC with a 4x10 schedule, Friday off, and requires US citizenship for DOE L clearance. You will mentor teammates and ensure compliance with DOE orders and standards.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited mechanical engineering program required.
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field with relevant experience as applicable.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE L clearance (US Citizenship) is required.

Responsibilities

• Apply Systems Engineering principles across the full lifecycle, including requirements development, decomposition, verification, and traceability.
• Develop and integrate systems engineering principles throughout projects, including road mapping and testing.
• Use digital engineering tools for MBSE and design reviews.
• Create and manage System Design Descriptions (SDDs), F&OR, ConOps, and COR documents with proper references.
• Maintain synchronization across requirements databases, EDMS, and source documents.
• Develop macros, scripts, and tools to automate document generation and requirements management.
• Develop AI-assisted workflows to perform completeness checks and automated design reviews.
• Draft concepts of operations to identify high-level functions and detailed requirements for large projects.
• Ensure compliance with DOE orders and federal/state regulations.
• Coordinate guidance across instrumentation, controls, mechanical, safety, and document control disciplines.
• Mentor junior staff in technical writing and systems engineering methods.
