Job summary

Uptalent.io is seeking a Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer to lead the design and integration of advanced thermal energy storage and chilled-water systems for data centers and mission-critical facilities. You will drive projects from design through commissioning across the United States.

The role requires 5+ years in HVAC and hydronic systems, strong knowledge of BAS/BMS integration, and the ability to coordinate cross-disciplinary teams. Domestic travel up to 20% is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; PE license preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in HVAC, chilled-water systems, or energy infrastructure.
• Strong knowledge of hydronic systems, thermodynamics, cooling plants, and BAS/BMS integration.
• Experience coordinating work across mechanical, controls, and electrical disciplines.
• Ability to travel domestically up to 20%.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design and integration of thermal energy storage and chilled-water systems.
• Develop and review P&IDs, hydronic piping layouts, equipment arrangements, valve schedules, and controls integration interfaces.
• Perform hydraulic and pipe-stress analyses and support code-compliant engineering documentation.
• Integrate systems with chillers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, pumps, and BAS/BMS platforms.
• Collaborate with data center operators, MEP firms, contractors, design engineers, controls integrators, and commissioning teams.
• Support site surveys, startup, commissioning, and functional testing activities.
• Provide technical input for presales efforts, proposals, and RFP responses.
• Create or apply automation tools, such as Python or Excel/VBA, to improve engineering analyses and documentation.
• Partner with global R&D and product teams to refine system designs and deployment methods.
• Mentor junior engineers as the engineering team expands.
