Job summary

Metric DCX is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design of data center infrastructure, focusing on mission-critical cooling and mechanical systems.

You will act as technical authority across projects, shaping engineering standards, Basis of Design, and collaborating with EORs, contractors, equipment manufacturers, and internal teams. PE license required and travel ~15–25%.

Qualifications

• Data center or mission-critical mechanical design experience.
• Central chilled-water plants and heat-rejection systems experience.
• Chillers, cooling towers, CRAHs/CRACs, pumps and heat exchangers experience.
• Hydronic systems, piping, P&IDs and equipment sizing knowledge.
• High-density AI/GPU cooling infrastructure experience.
• Direct-to-chip liquid cooling, CDUs and secondary cooling loops knowledge.
• Mechanical calculations and equipment selection experience.
• N, N+1 and 2N resiliency strategies understanding.
• Basis of Design and engineering standards familiarity.
• Participation in 30/60/90% and IFC design reviews.

Responsibilities

• Act as a technical authority across projects, supporting development of engineering standards and Basis of Design.
• Collaborate with EORs, contractors, equipment manufacturers and internal delivery teams.
• Lead design reviews and ensure compliance with program requirements.
• Support construction, testing and commissioning activities.
• Contribute to modular and prefabricated mechanical infrastructure strategies.

Senior Mechanical Engineer – Data Center Infrastructure

I’m currently supporting a growing data center infrastructure organization with the appointment of a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join its expanding engineering function.

This is a senior technical position with responsibility for the design and delivery of mechanical systems supporting mission-critical and high‑density data center environments.

The successful candidate will act as a technical authority across projects, supporting the development of engineering standards and Basis of Design while working closely with EORs, contractors, equipment manufacturers and internal delivery teams.

Key areas of experience include:

• Data center or mission-critical mechanical design
• Central chilled-water plants and heat-rejection systems
• Chillers, cooling towers, CRAHs/CRACs, pumps and heat exchangers
• Hydronic systems, piping, P&IDs and equipment sizing
• High-density AI/GPU cooling infrastructure

An active Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.

Location: Anywhere in the US

Travel: Approximately 15–25%

Compensation: Up to 220K Base and a Bonus

Working arrangement: Hybrid, with flexibility for highly qualified candidates
