Job description

Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer

Dallas–Fort Worth, TX | Home-Based U.S. | Full-Time | Approximately 20% Travel

An innovative, fast-growing clean-energy technology company is seeking a Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer to support the deployment of advanced thermal energy storage and chilled-water cooling systems for data centers, commercial buildings, and other mission-critical facilities.

This is a high-impact engineering role combining mechanical system design, equipment integration, field execution, commissioning, and client-facing technical support. The selected engineer will lead the mechanical integration of energy-storage systems into both existing and new cooling plants across the United States.

The position is home-based within the U.S. Candidates located in the Dallas–Fort Worth area are preferred, although highly qualified candidates elsewhere in the country will be considered.

The Role

The Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer will work closely with engineering, operations, controls, contractors, commissioning teams, and customers to successfully design and deploy large-scale chilled-water and thermal energy systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead mechanical design and integration of thermal energy storage and chilled-water systems.
  • Develop and review P&IDs, hydronic piping layouts, equipment arrangements, valve schedules, and controls-integration interfaces.
  • Perform hydraulic calculations and pipe-stress analysis supporting system design and code-compliant documentation.
  • Integrate systems with chillers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, pumps, and BAS/BMS platforms.
  • Coordinate with data center operators, MEP engineering firms, mechanical contractors, controls integrators, design engineers, and commissioning teams.
  • Support site surveys, startup, commissioning, functional testing, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Provide technical engineering input for proposals, RFP responses, presales activities, and mechanical system narratives.
  • Develop and utilize engineering automation tools using Python, Excel/VBA, or similar technologies.
  • Collaborate with product-development and engineering teams to improve system designs and deployment methods.
  • Mentor junior engineers as the engineering organization expands.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience involving HVAC, chilled-water systems, cooling plants, or energy infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge of hydronic systems, thermodynamics, central cooling plants, and BAS/BMS integration.
  • Experience coordinating mechanical systems with electrical and controls disciplines.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Plant 3D, or similar engineering/design software.
  • Familiarity with commissioning, startup, and field-execution processes.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 20% domestically.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
Highly Desired Experience

Candidates with one or more of the following backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply:

  • Data centers or other mission-critical facilities.
  • Thermal energy storage systems.
  • Data center cooling architectures, including air-side and water-side economization.
  • Industrial refrigeration or low-temperature glycol systems.
  • Retrofit projects in active or operational facilities.
  • Hydraulic analysis using tools such as Pipe-Flo.
  • Pipe-stress analysis using AutoPIPE or similar software.
  • Energy or cooling-load modeling using TRACE, HAP, or similar tools.
  • ASHRAE standards and applicable U.S. mechanical/building codes.
  • ASME requirements, including B31.3.
  • IPC and NEC familiarity.
  • Python, VBA, Dynamo, AI tools, or other methods of automating engineering workflows.
  • Development of RFP responses, technical proposals, and engineering narratives.
  • Startup or fast-growth technology-company environments.

Military veterans with relevant engineering, technical leadership, facilities, or field-operations experience are encouraged to apply.

Why Consider This Opportunity?
  • Work on advanced clean-energy and cooling infrastructure deployed in mission-critical environments.
  • Participate directly in the rapidly expanding data-center market.
  • Combine advanced mechanical engineering with hands-on field execution.
