Confidential Employer in the United States is seeking a Mechanical Systems Designer to design complete mechanical systems for custom industrial equipment and automation applications. You will take projects from concept to detailed design, documentation, manufacturing support, and testing.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on designer with 3D CAD experience and a background in machinery, automation, or complex industrial equipment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; equivalent relevant experience will also be considered.
• 6+ years of mechanical design experience, preferably involving automation, industrial machinery, packaging equipment, or custom engineered systems.
• Strong proficiency with 3D CAD software; SolidWorks preferred.
• Experience designing machine assemblies, welded structures, tooling, and precision mechanical components.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, including machining, fabrication, welding, and assembly.
• Experience with design for manufacturability (DFM) and cost-conscious engineering.
• Demonstrated ability to perform engineering calculations and apply sound mechanical design principles.
• Experience with pneumatic systems and mechanical power transmission.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced engineering and manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Design complete mechanical systems, including machine frames, weldments, assemblies, tooling, and mechanical components.
• Create 3D models, detailed manufacturing drawings, and assembly layouts using SolidWorks.
• Translate customer requirements and project specifications into practical, reliable, and manufacturable designs.
• Collaborate with electrical, controls, manufacturing, and other engineering disciplines to ensure proper system integration.
• Perform engineering calculations related to component sizing, loads, stresses, tolerances, and mechanical system performance.
• Design and size pneumatic systems, mechanical power transmission components, and other mechanical systems as required.
• Review designs for form, fit, function, manufacturability, reliability, safety, and cost.
• Support projects through design reviews, manufacturing, assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and final acceptance.
• Work with customers, suppliers, and internal teams to develop and refine engineering solutions.
• Identify design challenges and proactively communicate potential project risks or schedule impacts.
• Develop standardized designs, components, and CAD practices to improve efficiency and consistency.
• Maintain CAD standards, libraries, and engineering documentation.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on design quality, cost reduction, and product performance.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers and designers.
• Manage multiple projects and priorities while meeting established deadlines and project milestones.
