Confidential Employer | Full-Time
A growing engineering and manufacturing organization is seeking an experienced Mechanical Systems Designer to design and develop complete mechanical systems for custom industrial equipment and automation applications.
This role is responsible for taking projects from concept and system layout through detailed design, documentation, manufacturing support, and testing. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on mechanical designer with strong 3D CAD experience and a background designing machinery, automation, or complex industrial equipment.
Design complete mechanical systems, including machine frames, weldments, assemblies, tooling, and mechanical components.
Create 3D models, detailed manufacturing drawings, and assembly layouts using SolidWorks.
Translate customer requirements and project specifications into practical, reliable, and manufacturable designs.
Collaborate with electrical, controls, manufacturing, and other engineering disciplines to ensure proper system integration.
Perform engineering calculations related to component sizing, loads, stresses, tolerances, and mechanical system performance.
Design and size pneumatic systems, mechanical power transmission components, and other mechanical systems as required.
Review designs for form, fit, function, manufacturability, reliability, safety, and cost.
Support projects through design reviews, manufacturing, assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and final acceptance.
Work with customers, suppliers, and internal teams to develop and refine engineering solutions.
Identify design challenges and proactively communicate potential project risks or schedule impacts.
Develop standardized designs, components, and CAD practices to improve efficiency and consistency.
Maintain CAD standards, libraries, and engineering documentation.
Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on design quality, cost reduction, and product performance.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers and designers.
Manage multiple projects and priorities while meeting established deadlines and project milestones.
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience will also be considered.
6+ years of mechanical design experience, preferably involving automation, industrial machinery, packaging equipment, or custom engineered systems.
Strong proficiency with 3D CAD software; SolidWorks preferred.
Experience designing machine assemblies, welded structures, tooling, and precision mechanical components.
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, including machining, fabrication, welding, and assembly.
Experience with design for manufacturability (DFM) and cost-conscious engineering.
Demonstrated ability to perform engineering calculations and apply sound mechanical design principles.
Experience with pneumatic systems and mechanical power transmission.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast‑paced engineering and manufacturing environment.
Experience with robotics, automated machinery, motion systems, or machine tooling.
Experience with end‑of‑arm tooling or robotic applications.
Experience designing equipment for food, pharmaceutical, or other sanitary applications.
Experience with system testing, debugging, commissioning, or factory acceptance testing.
Experience developing standardized designs and reusable engineering solutions.
Previous experience mentoring engineers or mechanical designers.
The ideal candidate is a hands‑on mechanical designer who enjoys solving complex engineering problems and seeing designs progress from concept through manufacturing and testing. You should be comfortable working in a collaborative environment and balancing technical requirements, project schedules, manufacturability, and cost.
