Job summary

F.W. Sims is seeking a Senior Estimator to join the preconstruction team. You will produce comprehensive cost estimates for mechanical piping on large-scale commercial and high-rise projects in New York City.

Lead full-cycle estimating, develop takeoffs, and present bid proposals to GCs, CMs, and Owners. Ideal candidates have deep piping estimating expertise, strong subcontractor relationships, and a track record of winning work in NYC.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of estimating experience for mechanical piping on large-scale commercial/high-rise projects.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead full-cycle estimating for mechanical piping systems on large projects.
• Analyze drawings, specs, and scopes to develop detailed takeoffs and costs.
• Solicit and negotiate pricing from subs, suppliers, and vendors.
• Prepare competitive bid proposals for GC/CMs/Owners.
• Identify risks, value engineering opportunities, and cost-saving options.
• Collaborate with executives and field leadership to ensure smooth turnover.
• Maintain relationships with clients and industry partners for new work.
• Track historical data and market trends to refine estimates.
• Participate in bid strategy meetings, pre-bid walks, and scope reviews.
• Mentor junior estimators as needed.
