Advantage Technical is seeking a Senior Mechanical Packaging Engineer in Columbia, MD to lead the development of rugged mechanical packaging for aerospace electronic assemblies. You will drive concept to production, collaborating with electrical and engineering teams to meet performance and EMI requirements.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering and 8+ years of related experience, with the ability to obtain a Secret Clearance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
• 8+ years of mechanical engineering experience required.
• Experience designing mechanical packaging for electrical/electronic assemblies, preferably aerospace/defense.
• Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance; strong documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Design lightweight mechanical packaging and enclosures for electrical/electronic assemblies used in aerospace environments.
• Develop space-constrained packaging solutions for EMI-prone systems.
• Perform structural and thermal analysis to verify performance.
• Collaborate with Electrical Engineering to define mechanical requirements and create concepts and detailed designs.
• Support prototype builds, manufacturing integration, testing, and first-article production activities.
• Participate in design reviews and customer presentations.
• Create and maintain production-ready engineering documents, drawings, and specs.
• Work with cross-functional teams to improve manufacturability, quality, and product performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Design lightweight mechanical packaging and enclosures for electrical and electronic assemblies used in demanding aerospace environments.
• Develop solutions for space‑constrained systems exposed to atmospheric conditions and high electromagnetic interference (EMI).
• Perform structural and thermal analysis to validate designs and ensure performance requirements are met.
• Collaborate with Electrical Engineering teams to define mechanical requirements and create packaging concepts, layouts, and detailed designs.
• Support prototype builds, manufacturing integration, testing, and first‑article production activities.
• Participate in design reviews and customer presentations, ensuring compliance with technical and program requirements.
• Create and maintain production‑ready engineering documentation, drawings, and specifications.
• Work closely with cross‑functional teams to improve manufacturability, quality, and product performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 8+ years of mechanical engineering experience; advanced degrees may be considered in lieu of some experience.
• Experience designing mechanical packaging for electrical/electronic assemblies, preferably within aerospace, aviation, defense, or other high‑reliability industries.
• Strong background in manufacturing support, product development, and engineering documentation.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance.
