Overview

Our client is a leader in the defense and aerospace industry located in Columbia, MD that designs, manufactures, and supports aerostat systems used for military, border security, maritime surveillance, communications, and intelligence missions.

Job Title

Title: Mechanical Packaging Engineer

Location & Compensation

Location: On‑site, Columbia, MD
Salary: $40.00 – $60.00 per hour (equivalent to $80,000‑$120,000 annual) on a contract-to-hire basis.

Responsibilities

The individual will design lightweight electrical assemblies in space‑restricted enclosures for avionics applications exposed to the atmosphere and operating in high EMI environments.

Perform analysis on designs, including structural and thermal testing.

Collaborate with electrical engineering designers to define mechanical design requirements and develop packaging design concepts and layout for detailed drawings.

Work with manufacturing to ensure designs meet company standards and capabilities.

Occasional travel to a North Carolina facility may be required.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience in mechanical packaging design with electrical and electronic assemblies, preferably in the aviation industry.
  • Ability to create production‑level engineering documentation for a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to support manufacturing for 1st article builds.
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills for interfacing with senior management and customers, and for mentoring other engineers.
  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance.
