Job summary

Martin J. Braun Mechanical Contractors seeks an experienced Senior Mechanical Estimator to join our growing team in Maryland.

You will develop detailed estimates for HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems across commercial, government, and institutional projects, and lead takeoffs, bid development, and vendor pricing. Applicants should have 5+ years of mechanical estimating in relevant sectors, strong reading of drawings and specs, and proficiency with estimating software and Excel.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of mechanical estimating experience in commercial, industrial, institutional, or government construction.
• Strong estimating experience across HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, plans, and docs.
• Design-Build renovation estimate experience.
• Experience writing detailed Scopes of Work and proposals.
• Ability to identify clarifications, exclusions, and exceptions in proposals.
• Proficiency with mechanical estimating software.
• Strong analytical, mathematical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed estimates for commercial, government, and institutional mechanical construction projects.
• Develop takeoffs for HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems.
• Review drawings, specifications, schedules, and construction documents.
• Analyze plans and specs to identify scope, discrepancies, exclusions, and risks.
• Solicit and evaluate pricing from subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers.
• Develop competitive bids while maintaining project profitability.
• Perform quantity takeoffs and verify material and equipment requirements.
• Estimate labor hours and productivity based on scope and data.
• Prepare bid summaries and supporting documentation.
• Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and walkthroughs.
