Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Senior Manager, Mechanical Engineering to lead the design and delivery of the ARC vacuum vessel. You will guide a team of mechanical engineers through concept, CAD modeling, procurement, and assembly while coordinating with ARC plant systems to optimize overall design for the fusion power plant.

This role requires 10+ years in mechanical engineering, leadership experience on large structures, and strong expertise in structural analysis and fluid cooling.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field required.
• 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience.
• Experience on multi-disciplinary engineering projects.
• Experience delivering large metallic structures.
• Experience with structural analysis.
• Knowledge of fluid cooling of mechanical structures.
• Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of mechanical engineers to plan and deliver the ARC vacuum vessel and related systems.
• Oversee the full design lifecycle from concept to hardware procurement and assembly.
• Coordinate design interfaces with other ARC plant systems and teams.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership to solve complex, multi-disciplinary challenges.
• Manage schedules and budgets to deliver critical components for ARC power plant.
• Develop and manage supplier relationships for vacuum vessel components.
• Promote safety, resilience, and high-performance culture within the group.
