Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems seeks a Staff Mechanical Engineer for the ARC Remote Maintenance System, responsible for leading remote maintenance design, RHE development, and cross-functional collaboration with tokamak and plant engineering teams.

You will drive R&D campaigns, oversee multi-disciplinary studies, and help shape ARC into a maintainable fusion power plant while ensuring safety and reliability in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Must have a Structural, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering B.S.
• 10+ years in mechanical engineering for complex structures (fusion/space)
• 10+ years in design of remote handling equipment (RHE)
• Proven track record leading R&D campaigns for novel tech in remote maintenance
• Strong CAD/FEA experience and ability to lead multidisciplinary teams
• Willingness to travel and work nights/weekends when needed

Responsibilities

• Lead development and execution of ARC Remote Maintenance System operations
• Drive conceptual design process for ARC fusion power plant and provide guidance to cross-functional teams
• Design radiation-hardened RHE with existing robotics and custom hardware
• Perform expert maintenance assessments to shape ARC as a remotely maintainable plant
• Collaborate with tokamak engineering to aid remote maintainability and novel solutions
• Conduct multi-disciplinary trade studies across physics, mech, thermo-fluids, electricals, and economics
