Job summary

SSOE is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer in Austin, TX, to lead mechanical design for semiconductor tool installations and related utilities. You’ll mentor junior engineers, drive design reviews, and ensure code compliance across HVAC, UPW/RO/DI, exhaust, and safety systems.

You will collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, deliver robust design packages, and support field construction with RFI responses and site verifications, while advancing best practices and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited institution.
• Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Arizona or eligibility to obtain by reciprocity within six months of hire.
• 8+ years of progressive experience in mechanical systems design for semiconductor, pharmaceutical, microelectronics, or other contamination‑controlled environments.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD for mechanical design.
• Comprehensive working knowledge of ASHRAE standards, NFPA 90A, IMC/IBC, and applicable state and local codes.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the mechanical authority on projects, setting design direction and resolving technical conflicts.
• Own end-to-end mechanical design of tool installations, utilities, and clean environments.
• Lead the design, analysis, and specifications of HVAC, UPW/RO/DI, and exhaust systems for fab facilities.
• Coordinate with electrical, structural, process, chemical, controls, and architectural teams to deliver fully integrated systems.
• Provide hands-on engineering support during construction: RFI responses, submittal reviews, and site inspections.
