Job summary

SSOE Group's Advanced Technology division is seeking a Senior Mechanical Designer to join our team in Austin, TX. You will design industrial and high-tech manufacturing facilities, leading piping, HVAC, boilers, chillers, and related systems, collaborating with engineers and project managers to deliver builds on schedule.

You will mentor junior designers, perform field verifications, and ensure designs meet codes and CAD standards.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED; associate degree in engineering or architectural fields preferred.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit required; Navisworks or PIPE-FLO a plus.
• Familiarity with HVAC design standards and codes (ASHRAE 62.1, IMC, NFPA 90A) and local codes.
• Ability to coordinate across multidisciplinary teams including PMs, engineers, architects, and trades.
• Knowledge of HVAC systems, chillers, boilers, exhaust, process chemicals, or related systems.
• Strong communication skills for design reviews and RFIs.

Responsibilities

• Produce technical project plans, specifications, drawings, and models aligned with requirements.
• Lead design of industrial and domestic piping, HVAC ducting, chillers, boilers, exhaust, and related systems.
• Design HVAC to meet environmental specs including materials and controls.
• Apply CAD standards and maintain quality control across designs.
• Collaborate with mechanical engineers on load calculations and equipment sizing.
• Coordinate among Electrical, Structural, Process/Chemical, Architectural disciplines.
• Work with designers, engineers, PMs on objectives and problem solving.
• Conduct field verifications and site assessments; resolve issues during construction.
• Support PMs and engineers with timelines, submittals, and RFIs.
• Mentor and train junior designers on drafting standards and software use.
