Job summary

Therm-x looks for an experienced Sr. Mechanical Engineer – Thermal Systems to own brazed/welded heater assemblies from concept to production at our Hayward, CA site. You will define customer requirements, drive thermal/structural design, and release 3D models with GD&T drawings for fabrication.

You’ll perform hand calculations and FEA, guide prototypes, and lead projects across internal teams, machinists, and suppliers. Travel to our Mexico facility quarterly is expected.

Qualifications

• 8+ years as a mechanical design engineer owning designs from concept through release.
• Hardware designed for elevated temperature and production readiness."
• Strong heat transfer and thermal-mechanical behavior at temperature (conduction, radiation, CTE mismatch).
• Solid 3D CAD and GD&T drawing packages (ASME Y14.5); able to read basic electrical schematics.
• Experience taking a product from concept to production with technicians, machinists and suppliers.
• Basic project management experience (MS Project or similar).
• Based at Hayward, CA; onsite preferred with possible hybrid arrangements; travel to Mexico quarterly.

Responsibilities

• Establish product requirements with customers and internal teams and develop concept designs.
• Own mechanical and thermal design of new heater and thermal-assembly products and release 3D models and GD&T drawings.
• Select materials and joining processes for high-temperature service and design for CTE mismatch and reliability.
• Perform hand calculations and thermal/structural FEA (COMSOL, ANSYS) and correlate with test data.
• Guide prototype builds and testing with machinists, technicians, and suppliers; define tests and iterate the design.
• Lead each product as a project: schedule, cost, risk; manage reviews; carry design into manufacturing in Hayward and Mexico with documentation and fixturing concepts.
• Develop AI-assisted engineering workflows to streamline drawing, documentation, and analysis tasks.
• Mentor Level I/II engineers and develop reusable design rules and templates.
