Job summary

Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus, OH, seeks a Lead Mechanical Engineer responsible for the design, testing, and integration of new systems, and for maintenance of existing mechanical systems across diverse platforms, including naval, aerospace, robotics and defense.

You will lead projects, mentor junior staff, document technical work, present results to clients, and collaborate with cross‑disciplinary teams to deliver high‑quality solutions while complying with rigorous QA and security

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited BS in Mechanical Engineering with 12+ years experience; or MS with 7 years; or PhD with 4 years.
• Strong CAD proficiency in SolidWorks or Creo.
• Ability to lead, mentor and train staff effectively.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, analyze, test, manufacture, and maintain mechanical components across marine, aerospace, robotic, and defense systems.
• Lead and coordinate technical projects within time and budget constraints.
• Mentor junior staff and foster technical excellence.
• Build relationships with clients and present results and schedules.
• Prepare specs and analyze data to determine limits for products and processes.
• Collaborate with Battelle engineers across sites to design, fabricate, and integrate new systems.
• Analyze data to inform engineering decisions and document results.
