Job summary

Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus, OH is seeking a Mid-Length Mechanical Engineer for a full-time, on-site role. The engineer will design, test, and integrate mechanical systems across defense and engineering domains, leveraging CAD/FEA/CFD tools and working with a multidisciplinary team.

The ideal candidate applies mechanics, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and materials science to vehicle, marine, and robotic systems, and collaborates with engineers across sites to deliver robust

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program with a minimum of 2 years of demonstrated experience; or a bachelor's degree in a related field with 4 years of experience; or a master's degree in a related field with 2 years of experience.
• SolidWorks and/or Creo experience for CAD modeling.
• Ability to lead and mentor junior staff.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Curious, problem-solving mindset with creative solutions.
• Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team.
• Experience with quality assurance programs.

Responsibilities

• Design, analyze, test, manufacture, and maintain mechanical components and systems across diverse platforms.
• Lead and/or conduct small technical projects or phases of larger technical projects.
• Present research results and communicate project schedules and deliverables to clients.
• Prepare technical specifications and analyze data for product or materials requirements.
• Collaborate across Battelle sites to design, fabricate, and integrate new mechanical systems.
• Prepare written documentation including technical reports and manuals.
• Support business development and contribute to proposals.
