Job summary

Battelle in Columbus, OH seeks a Mid-Level Mechanical Engineer to design, test, and integrate new systems and support maintenance of existing mechanical systems. You will work in a multidisciplinary team across marine, aerospace, robotic, and defense platforms, applying CAD/FEA/CFD tools and engineering principles.

The role emphasizes hands‑on lab work, collaboration, and communication with stakeholders, with opportunities to contribute to IR&D and proposals.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with 2+ years or related field with 4 years or master's with 2 years.
• Proficient in CAD/modeling using SolidWorks and/or Creo.
• Ability to lead and mentor junior staff.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Curious, problem‑solving mindset with creative solutions.
• Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team.
• Experience with client‑driven QA programs.
• Proficient with MS Office including Project and Visio.
• Hands‑on lab/shop experience; US citizen; TS/SCI clearance willingness.

Responsibilities

• Design, analyze, test, manufacture, and maintain mechanical components across platforms.
• Lead small projects or phases of larger technical projects from concept to delivery.
• Build relationships with clients; present research results and schedules.
• Compile data, prepare specs, and analyze to set limits for specs.
• Collaborate with Battelle engineers across sites to design and integrate systems.
• Analyze data to inform engineering decisions.
• Prepare technical reports, test plans/reports, manuals, and instructions.
• Present reports to clients in formal and informal settings.
• Support business development and contribute to proposals.
• Contribute to IR&D studies and proposal sections.
• Collaborate across disciplines to solve real‑world problems.
