Job summary

Arup in New York City is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead HVAC and building mechanical design across a diverse portfolio. You will deliver energy-efficient solutions, coordinate with electrical, plumbing, and other disciplines, and contribute to high-performing project teams.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering and 6+ years’ experience with HVAC/building systems, preferably in NYC/Northeast contexts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering.
• Minimum 6 years of professional experience designing HVAC and building mechanical systems across diverse project types.
• Experience working within New York City and Northeast regulatory environments preferred.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical engineering design across projects, including HVAC and hydronic systems, ventilation strategies, and building performance optimization.
• Coordinate with electrical, plumbing, structural, fire/life safety, and project management teams for integrated designs.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to support a high-performing team.
• Develop drawings, specifications, and basis-of-design documentation in line with codes and standards.
• Present concepts to technical and non-technical audiences and engage clients throughout project delivery.
