Job summary

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (OTS) in Huntsville, AL is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in solid rocket motor ballistics to support our SRM Engineering Team.

The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in internal ballistics, performance prediction, and propulsion system modeling, and will perform detailed ballistic analyses while leading cross‑functional engineering efforts.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree in Engineering with 5–7 years of experience is required.
• Engineering degree required for discipline/major.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

• Applies engineering techniques to design, install, modify, analyze, repair and test tools, engines, machines, and other mechanically functioning equipment.
• Reads and interprets blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
• Confers with engineers to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information.
• Researches and analyzes customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications.
• Specifies system components or directs modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.
• Investigates equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation, and to make recommendations to maintenance crew.
