Xona Space Systems, a leader in navigational intelligence, seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to own spacecraft subsystems from concept through qualification and production. You will lead trade studies, define interfaces, and ensure robust hardware delivery for high‑reliability space systems.

Responsibilities include crafting flight hardware and GSE, performing structural calculations and FEA, prototyping, testing, and guiding design reviews.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
• 7+ years of mechanical hardware development experience on complex assemblies or subsystems in aerospace or high‑reliability field.
• Experience taking hardware from requirements/concept to design, build, and qualification or verification.
• Strong fundamentals: load paths, joints, materials, thermal/optical properties, manufacturing, GD&T and tolerance analysis.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD and drawing release using SolidWorks or comparable platform, with disciplined PDM and configuration management.
• Ability to perform and critically assess structural calculations and FEA; reconcile with test results.
• Hands‑on experience assembling, inspecting, troubleshooting, and testing hardware; resolve issues in integration/production.
• Judgment in technical tradeoffs, clear cross‑discipline communication, and mentoring engineers.

Responsabilités

• Own complex mechanical subsystems from concept through qualification and production, defining requirements, interfaces, verification plans, and delivery schedules.
• Lead mechanical trade studies and contribute to spacecraft layouts and architecture balancing loads, packaging, thermal interfaces, reliability, cost, manufacturability, and integration.
• Design flight hardware and critical GSE; release CAD, drawings, BOMs, and interface definitions with GD&T, tolerance analysis, and config control.
• Perform first-principles calculations and structural FEA; define loads, boundary conditions, margins, verification needs.
• Build prototypes, work with hardware, develop fixtures and functional tests to retire risks; qualify hardware; support vibration/TVAC campaigns.
• Lead resolution of build/integration/test/production anomalies; contain issue, find root cause, implement corrective action, verify fix.
• Own supplier technical execution: requirements, design reviews, procurement coordination, inspection criteria, issues resolution.
• Coordinate across mechanical, thermal, electrical, payload, GNC, manufacturing, and I&T teams; communicate tradeoffs and drive closure.
