Job summary

Muon Space is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to own the mechanical direction of hardware from requirements definition to installation on the launch vehicle. You will collaborate with engineering teams to deliver robust hardware, engaging structural, thermal, electrical teams as needed to meet mission goals.

As an early-stage startup, breadth is essential; you will cover structural analysis, dynamics, thermal design, supplier management, and other lifecycle tasks for electromechanical

Qualifications

  • 8+ years designing, building, and testing high reliability hardware.
  • B.S. or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks preferred) for component and assembly design.
  • Mastery of drawings, GD&T, BOMs, FAIs, tolerance budgets, and mass budgets.
  • Experience with ECO/DCO processes and PLM systems.
  • Led mechanical design for complex electromechanical systems.
  • Experience technically leading or managing a small team of engineers/technicians.
  • Extensive documentation: build procedures, test plans, DOEs.

Responsibilities

  • Deep understanding of Muon’s spacecraft platforms; tailor components to meet mission needs.
  • Design, build, and test mission-specific components and payloads.
  • Create and refine spacecraft system mechanical designs in SolidWorks.
  • Design and document reusable components for Muon’s common platform.
  • Lead mechanical portion of internal and external design reviews.
  • Interface with structural and thermal engineers to define and run analysis.
  • Lead component environmental testing campaigns (vibration, TVAC, etc).
  • Write build procedures and mission-specific documentation.
