Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore, CA seeks an R&D S&E Mechanical Engineer to perform solid mechanics and structural-dynamics research, modeling, and simulation for national security missions. You will use finite element analysis and advanced computational methods to predict component behavior under diverse conditions.

The role requires a Bachelor's with 5+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent mix of education and work, plus the ability to obtain a DOE Q-level security

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience.
• Ability to obtain and maintain DOE Q-level security clearance

Responsibilities

• Build finite element models of components, sub-assemblies, or full systems and perform non-linear static or dynamic analyses.
• Perform research, development, and simulations and share results through internal reports, journals, conferences, and reviews.
• Apply engineering analysis and computational methods to design, qualify, and field high-consequence engineered systems.
• Develop and apply uncertainty quantification techniques and assess model credibility.
• Collaborate with code/model developers to create novel HPC algorithms and capabilities.
• Work with multidisciplinary teams across California and New Mexico sites to deliver validated results.
