Job summary

Redwire Defense Tech in Ann Arbor, MI, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design, development, and validation of complex mechanical systems for SOFC power systems used in UAS and portable generators.

The role requires hands-on leadership during prototype builds, test campaigns, and production transitions, with strong expertise in mechanical design, cross-functional coordination, and design standards. Mentorship and technical excellence are valued assets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
• 4–7 years of relevant mechanical or aerospace engineering experience with ownership of major subsystems.
• Experience with Fuel Cells, Power Generators, high temperature systems, fluid management, or DC power electronics.
• Experience developing products for aerospace, defense, or similarly regulated environments.
• Hands-on experience supporting prototype, production, and test activities.
• Advanced CAD modeling and drafting; SolidWorks preferred.
• Deep understanding of GD&T, drawing standards, and documentation control.
• Knowledge of materials, composites, machined parts, and structural integration.
• Experience applying analyses (FEA) to support design development.
• Familiarity with PDM/PLM systems (SolidWorks PDM, Windchill).
• Experience with prototyping and large-scale manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, modeling, and analysis of major mechanical and structural subsystems for SOFC power systems and supporting products.
• Perform and review tolerance analysis, structural analysis (FEA), and materials selection.
• Oversee design documentation, drawing release, and configuration management activities.
• Coordinate design integration across disciplines—mechanical, electrical, and software.
• Guide prototype builds, resolving manufacturability, fit, and performance issues.
• Develop and execute test plans to validate structural integrity and system performance.
• Analyze data, present results, and make informed design decisions.
• Lead and participate in design reviews (CoDR, PDR, CDR) and incorporate feedback.
• Support production readiness and quality verification for new and existing products.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in design standards and documentation.
