Job summary

Redwire Defense Tech is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design, development, and validation of complex mechanical systems for SOFC power systems used in UAS and portable generators. This role requires ownership of major subsystems and collaboration across disciplines to balance performance, reliability, and manufacturability.

The candidate will provide hands-on leadership during prototype builds, testing, and production transitions, with expertise in CAD modeling (SolidWorks),

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
• 4–7 years of relevant experience in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
• Experience with Fuel Cells, Power Generators, High Temperature systems, Fluid management, or DC Power Electronics.
• Experience in aerospace/defense or regulated environments.
• Hands-on experience with prototype, production, and test activities.
• CAD modeling and drafting experience (SolidWorks preferred).
• Knowledge of GD&T and documentation control.
• Experience with FEA and engineering analyses.
• Familiarity with PDM/PLM systems (SolidWorks PDM, Windchill).

Responsibilities

• Lead design, modeling, and analysis of major subsystems for SOFC power systems.
• Perform tolerance analysis, structural analysis (FEA), and materials selection.
• Oversee design documentation, drawing release, and configuration management.
• Coordinate design integration across mechanical, electrical, and software disciplines.
• Guide prototype builds, resolving manufacturability, fit, and performance issues.
• Develop and execute test plans to validate structural integrity and system performance.
• Analyze data, present results, and make informed decisions.
• Lead design reviews (CoDR, PDR, CDR) and incorporate feedback into designs.
• Support production readiness and quality verification for new and existing products.
• Contribute to design standards and process improvements.
