Job summary

Advanced Energy is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to design and develop power supply systems, balancing performance, reliability, and cost. The role involves thermal design, 3D layout, and hands-on prototype testing.

You will work alongside hardware, electrical, and firmware engineers to drive product development from concept through production, with opportunities to mentor others and influence cross-functional decisions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or similar required.
• 10+ years of experience in power electronics mechanical design.
• Experience with SolidWorks and thermal design.
• Ability to solve complex technical problems independently.
• Strong communication and collaboration across cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop efficient and cost-effective power supplies per customer and regulatory specifications (i.e., sheet metal enclosures, stamped and extruded heatsinks, cable assemblies, etc.) including thermal design and simulation, 3D board layout and prototype testing
• Work in a team environment with hardware engineers, electrical engineers, firmware engineers, and program managers on product development of extensive scope
• Utilize effective communication and team skills. Persuade and gain agreement with cross functional teams (hardware) and the ability to effectively communicate with multiple levels of an organization
• Participate in design reviews to improve mechanical and thermal design
• Exercise engineering judgment to select and develop methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria to secure project success
• Analyze test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications
• Interface with internal departments to ensure cost and schedule goals are met
• Diagnose issues across design, field performance, reliability, and manufacturing test yields of existing power supply products using formal investigation methods, and recommend and implement corrective actions
