Job summary

CHAOS Industries in El Segundo, CA, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead hands-on design, development, and qualification of ruggedized sensor systems and related electronics for aerospace and defense. You will own components and assemblies, develop CAD models, and ensure tight integration across disciplines.

The role covers concept through production, with leadership in structural/thermal analyses, DFMA, and documentation. A U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• 4+ years of mechanical design and integration for aerospace/defense.
• Proficient in SolidWorks or equivalent with complex parts/assemblies.
• Experience producing production-ready drawings and documentation.
• Knowledge of GD&T, tolerancing, interfaces, and configuration documentation.
• Ability to obtain/maintain a U.S. security clearance.
• Experience with RF, avionics, power electronics integration.
• Familiarity with ruggedized hardware and environmental requirements.

Responsibilities

• Design ruggedized electronic hardware, sensor systems, enclosures, structures, mechanisms, and related equipment.
• Develop and maintain 3D CAD models, complex assemblies, drawings, ICDs.
• Own design and documentation of components, assemblies, and subsystems.
• Track size, weight, and mechanical allocations for assemblies.
• Perform first-order structural and thermal analyses and hand calculations.
• Support prototype fabrication, assembly, testing, qualification, and troubleshooting.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, RF, power, and manufacturing teams to resolve integration challenges.
• Support DFMA, configuration control, fielding, and sustainment activities.
• Participate in design reviews and failure investigations.
