Job summary

CHAOS Industries in Los Angeles area seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to design ruggedized electronic hardware, sensor systems, and enclosures for aerospace and defense applications. You will develop 3D CAD models, lead complex assemblies, and advance qualification testing.

This on-site role in El Segundo, CA spans concept to sustainment, collaborating with mechanical, electrical, RF, power, and manufacturing teams to resolve integration challenges and ensure DFMA and reliable performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 4+ years of relevant experience in mechanical design and integration of electronic hardware for aerospace, defense, or similar applications.
• Strong proficiency with mechanical CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks) including complex parts and assemblies.
• Experience producing and reviewing production-ready mechanical drawings and documentation.
• Understanding of GD&T, tolerancing, alignment, installation practices, and configuration-controlled documentation.
• Experience designing or integrating mechanical hardware for RF, avionics, power electronics, embedded computing, or similar products.
• Familiarity with structural analysis methods, including hand calculations and FEA.
• Experience supporting prototype builds, integration, testing, or qualification activities.
• Familiarity with ruggedized hardware and environmental requirements.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Design ruggedized electronic hardware, sensor systems, avionics, enclosures, structures, mechanisms, and related equipment per program requirements.
• Develop and maintain 3D CAD models, complex assemblies, drawings, and ICDs.
• Own the design and documentation of assigned components and subsystems.
• Track size, weight, and mechanical allocations for assemblies.
• Perform first-order structural and thermal analyses and design verification activities.
• Support prototype fabrication, assembly, integration, testing, and qualification activities.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve integration challenges.
• Support DFMA, configuration control, and fielding activities.
• Participate in design reviews and failure investigations.
