Job summary

Symbotic is seeking a highly skilled mechanical engineer to join our R&D Hardware Engineering team to concept, prototype, design, and release complex electromechanical systems. You will analyze, prototype, and validate designs, collaborating across EE/Controls, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain to meet milestones.

The ideal candidate has 6+ years hands-on design experience, proficiency with SolidWorks, and familiarity with FEA.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum of 6 years of hands-on design experience.
• Industrial robotics, automation, and material handling experience preferred.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks desired.
• Experience with FEA tools (SolidWorks Simulation or ANSYS) desired.

Responsibilities

• Invent novel, elegant, and reliable solutions for highly integrated hardware systems.
• Contribute to conception, analysis, prototyping, detailed design and validation using SolidWorks.
• Perform feasibility analyses and recommendations on concept viability.
• Create quantitative trade studies to evaluate designs and identify optimum solutions.
• Contribute innovations that satisfy customers’ needs and enable new market opportunities.
• Research external components from suppliers and validate mechanical parts.
• Provide direction and leadership of external design partners and suppliers.
• Perform and document mechanical analysis of designs.
• Perform tolerance analysis on assemblies and create ANSI Y14.5 drawings.
• Create and manage BOMs and ECNs in Siemens Teamcenter PLM.
• Assist in assembling prototypes, testing, troubleshooting and design changes.
• Define test protocols, write test plans and validate safety/effectiveness.
• Help build program plans and schedules to hit milestones.
• Collaborate with EE/Controls, Manufacturing, Supply Chain teams.
• Communicate project status, chair design reviews, and present to stakeholders.
• Provide design guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
