Job summary

Symbotic in Wilmington, MA seeks a Staff Mechanical Engineer to design, develop and validate mechanical subsystems for autonomous mobile robots. You will own subsystems from concept through production and collaborate with electrical, software, and manufacturing teams.

The role requires at least 8 years of mechanical design experience, expertise in SolidWorks, FEA, and DFM/DFA, and willingness to travel up to 50% to support deployments and testing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is required; Master's degree is preferred.
• Multiple years of mechanical design experience in mobile robots or automation equipment.
• Experience with design for manufacturing and assembly (DFM/DFA).

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of mobile robot mechanical systems including chassis and drivetrains.
• Select motors, gearboxes, bearings, and drivetrain components with torque and durability analysis.
• Develop mechanisms and structures meeting performance and manufacturability goals.
• Perform FEA, kinematic studies, tolerance analysis, and validation testing.
• Collaborate with manufacturing and suppliers to optimize cost and quality.
• Integrate mechanical designs with electrical, software, and controls teams.
• Mentor junior engineers and support design reviews and field validation.
• Travel up to 50% for development, integration, and deployments.
