Job summary

Intuitive Surgical seeks an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead and contribute to the design, analysis, and verification of the next generation da Vinci robotics systems. You will work in cross-functional teams to improve performance, cost, and reliability of complex mechanisms and electro‑mechanical assemblies.

The role requires hands-on design, GD&T, FEA, and a strong background in manufacturability within regulated environments.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in CAD (Solidworks preferred), including complex assemblies, GD&T, and functional dimensioning.
• Proven ability to identify issues, bring clarity and transparency, and lead a team effectively to appropriate product solutions.
• Comfortable with all phases of the product development lifecycle including design, implementation, debug, verification, qualification, and transfer to Manufacturing.
• Proven proficiency at failure analysis and reliability-focused design.
• Strong understanding of materials selection, manufacturability, and design for assembly in regulated environments.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and verify new product designs or modifications to robotic systems.
• Investigate root causes of design, manufacturing, or material defects and implement fixes.
• Develop, test, document, and validate solutions per SOPs and regulatory requirements.
• Create mechanical drawings in government-regulated environments for high-volume manufacturing.
• Perform detailed analyses (tolerance stack, FEA, dynamics) to ensure fit/form/function of complex parts.
• Collaborate with suppliers to identify alternate fabrication methods to reduce cost and improve strength.
• Develop test protocols, document results, and support field and manufacturing issues.
• Mentor engineers and provide technical guidance across teams.
• Travel up to 10% as needed.
