Job summary

IPS, a Berkshire Hathaway company, seeks a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join our team across U.S. offices (MA, MD, NJ, PA, NC, KS, CA). Remote employment will be considered. You will lead mechanical/HVAC design, oversee projects, and work with a multi-disciplinary team on life sciences facilities.

The role requires 10–12 years in engineering/design, a BS in Mechanical Engineering, and strong command of AutoCAD/Revit; PE preferred. Travel 5–20% may occur.

Qualifications

• 10–12 years of engineering/design experience in building design with HVAC and utility generation.
• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college/university.
• Thorough understanding of the construction process.
• Experience with load calculations and energy analysis.

Responsibilities

• Direct the design of mechanical (HVAC) systems including air distribution and piping.
• Prepare engineering studies and schematic designs for new mechanical systems.
• Lead projects from feasibility through detailed design and documentation.
• Coordinate with code officials and other design professionals as needed.
• Review contractor applications for payment and manage project budgets.
• Perform duct sizing, pressure drop, air balance, and equipment sizing calculations.
• Develop and promote design standards and mentor staff.
