Job summary

Wabtec Railway Electronics in Germantown, MD seeks a senior mechanical engineer to develop innovative solutions for freight and transit railroads. You will collaborate with mechanical, electrical, software, system and test engineers to advance products from concept through validation, applying your expertise in high‑vibration environments and electronics packaging.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 6 years of experience as Mechanical Engineer with product design and development.
• Proficient in 3D modeling using Creo or SolidWorks.
• Designing mechanical systems for high-vibration environments in transportation.
• Strong background in electronics packaging and thermal management.
• Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills; ability to work collaboratively.

Responsibilities

• Hands-on experience with 3D printing and rapid prototyping techniques.
• Lead complete lifecycle product development from design, estimations, analysis, development and validation of complex mechanical systems and components.
• Utilize 3D modeling and simulation tools to optimize designs for performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical, software, and manufacturing for integration.
• Work with suppliers on development activities and resolve component quality challenges.
• Provide sound estimates of labor and material expenses for new projects.
• Evaluate 3rd party mechanical and electromechanical products by generating validation plans and overseeing testing.
• Ensure designs meet all relevant safety, regulatory, and environmental requirements.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.
• Continuously research and implement latest mechanical engineering practices and technologies.
