Job description

Job Description

BAE Systems is seeking a proactive Sr. Mechanical Engineer with analytical capabilities and demonstrated technical expertise. This individual will provide support to the design, development, integration/test, and production of dynamic electronic military systems. The engineer will work closely with hardware integrated into a variety of complex countermeasure and electromagnetic attack solutions and products including compact electronic warfare systems. The individual must be a self-starter and is desired to have development experience working with integrated military electronic hardware and related test equipment.

The selected candidate will be expected to execute both individually and in small, yet dynamic, team environments through production and sustainment support, and may include other phases of the product life cycle including concept development, detail design, qualification, and manufacturing transition. The engineer will be responsible for solving production issues while developing robust hardware solutions to meet demanding customer requirements and will leverage their mechanical engineering expertise to perform detailed design and analyses. Day to day, activities will include root cause and corrective action activities in a production environment. This will include close interactions with the manufacturing team and suppliers, including generating 3D solid models, drawings, and documentation utilizing GD&T principles; performing tolerance analyses to assure fit & function; performing thermal, structural/stress, and vibration analyses; assessing designs against environmental requirements; as well as generating prototypes in support of test and verification efforts.

With a product focus, the individual will actively partner with other engineering disciplines and operations personnel to develop solutions that adhere to UPC, DFT, and DFM requirements. Additionally, the engineer will support resolution of technical issues that are discovered during manufacture and test of deliverable hardware. This may include evaluating and troubleshooting mechanical faults and issues, assessing test failures for root cause, identifying disposition/corrective actions, as well as designing test equipment to ensure the performance and integrity of manufactured products.

The successful mechanical engineering candidate will have applicable experience in the following areas:

  1. Design, development, and analysis of electromechanical hardware and systems
  2. Product/Factory Support of DoD military electronics/avionics equipment
  3. State-of-the-art mechanical engineering design and development tools
  4. Design and analysis of multilayer CCAs
  5. Prototype & test
  6. Strong hands-on laboratory experience with instrumentation, equipment, and processes
  7. MIL specs & standards, industry standards including ASTM, SAE, DO
  8. Engineering documentation and presentations

The ideal candidate will thrive in a learning environment that encourages leadership and technical growth.

Because of the need for consistent, in-person collaboration and/or the requirement to perform all work onsite due to the nature of this particular role, it will be performed full-time on site.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

Requires:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and 5 years experience (4 with master's degree)
  2. Demonstrated experience in Product development and support of DoD military electronics equipment.
  3. Solid fundamentals of mechanical design, analysis, and documentation principles
  4. Experience with state-of-the-art mechanical engineering development software tools
  5. Strong written and verbal communication skills
  6. Motivated self-starter and problem solver with proven experience executing in dynamic multi-disciplinary teams
  7. Strong computer skills in basic MS Office and technical programs
  8. Knowledge of engineering development processes
  9. Eligible to obtain a DOD Security Clearance

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

Preferred:

  1. Knowledge/experience with manufacturing, production, and sustainment of mechanical systems and hardware
  2. Experience in the design/development of complex mechanical systems and hardware
  3. Experience in the design and manufacture of electronic circuit card assemblies
  4. ANSYS Workbench/Mechanical, PTC Creo, MATLAB/Simulink, Siemens NX, ANSYS Icepak
  5. Knowledge of design for manufacturing (DFM) principles
