Job summary

Nationwide Technical Search is seeking a Mechanical Engineer in Sterling, IL for an onsite, permanent role with full benefits. Salary is DOE, $80,000 - $110,000, with responsibilities across design, maintenance, and project management in a heavy manufacturing setting.

The candidate will support Melt Shop and Rod Mill operations, interpreting blueprints and schematics, ensuring safe, cost-effective production while complying with all safety policies.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering (preferred).
• 5–10 years of industrial maintenance/engineering experience with mechanical equipment.
• Experience managing project scopes, budgets, and schedules.

Responsibilities

• Engineering Support: Research, design, evaluate, install, and maintain mechanical systems, equipment, and production processes.
• Project & Contract Management: Oversee construction projects, manage scopes, budgets, and schedules, and manage equipment/construction vendor contracts.
• Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Analyze machine malfunctions, recommend design modifications, and ensure equipment is operating to specifications.
• Technical Documentation: Read and interpret blueprints, schematics (mechanical, electrical, hydraulic), technical drawings, and computer-generated reports.
• Safety & Compliance: Strictly adhere to all plant safety rules, operating procedures, and policies.
• Work Environment & Demands: Ability to work in extreme temperatures (hot/cold), dusty or dirty environments, at heights, and around heavy machinery. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, climb stairs/ladders, stand for long periods, and support a 24-hour schedule via variable shifts or on-call.
